Is there really a publisher stupid enough to pay Palin $7 million for a book? - Dennis S - 11-23-2008

Don't you figure they've seen all the books in the $1 bin about people much more substantial than her? Who is the market? Almost all of the women (who read most of the books) I know, can't stand her. The men I know might buy it if it has lots of good pictures.

I'm from Arkansas, which, along with the Appalachians, went more Republican than in 2004. Believe me, you don't want to count on Arkansans to recoup your 7 million.

The wingnut publishers, like Regnery, have a reputation of ripping off their "authors". (You know it will be ghost-written.)

I just don't see it happening.

Who got a $7 million advance on a book?

Is it another Harry Potter book? Is it an Oprah pick?

I used to have a friend years ago that had a family that was totally nuts - every last one of them

The stories were unbelievable except I had witnessed many of them myself. Her father was a
millionaire that ran as a vice presidential candidate on a ticket that made the John Birch Society
look like a bunch of flaming liberals.

I always kidded my friend that I wanted the movie rights to her family and I was only half joking.

my motto -

Wherever there is a nutlog, there's a line at Stuckeys to buy them.

Tina Fey is reportedly getting $6 million herself, and as much as I enjoy her work I can't really picture myself buying that one, either.

Hillary Clinton got an $8 million advance for her biography, and Bill O'Reilly got a $5 million dollar advance for his last book.

The irony is that Palin is getting this advance not because she is an author or has anything to contribute to the world of books, but because she is a CELEBRITY. Just like Britney Spears and Paris Hilton.

Ooo, now that would be quite a contest. Who is the most annoying, Brittany, Paris or Sarah?

Tough call!

Well, in a Celebrity Deathmatch between the three, I'd pick Palin. She actually knows how to kill, at least Caribou.

Seems to me the better question is if there is a publisher that would NOT pay her $7 million for a book.

She's a hot commodity whether you like her or not. After all, 46% of the voting population comprises the market that might be interested in reading her book.

Publishers generally aren't stupid about advances. You can bet they will have done the maths and come out with a decent profit. They want a best-seller. They will get a writer who can do a good job. Every bit of publicity the deal gets good or bad helps ensure that the book will be a hit.

John McCain and the Republican party already lost with her. i guess someone else wants to do the same.
