Happy Turkey Day From Sarah Palin - karsen - 11-24-2008

This is surreal, it almost reminds me of a Monty Python skit. She should give all of her interviews in front of turkey slaughter.

How could I have missed that?!

Re: Happy Turkey Day From Sarah Palin - $tevie - 11-24-2008

I've been afraid to watch it. It sounds horrible.

Re: Happy Turkey Day From Sarah Palin - karsen - 11-24-2008

It's not horrible. It's just... weird.

Re: Happy Turkey Day From Sarah Palin - $tevie - 11-24-2008

Do they actually show turkeys being slaughtered? That's horrible by my standards. Sad

Re: Happy Turkey Day From Sarah Palin - samintx - 11-24-2008

No, it isn't gory....I used to slaughter 100 broilers in a day for the freezer. Cut their heads off etc etc No big deal.

Re: Happy Turkey Day From Sarah Palin - mattkime - 11-24-2008

depends upon your taste for gore. the first time i watched it i couldn't really tell what was going on in the background aside from a turkey with his legs in the air. showed it to a few friends who were horrified.

Yes $tevie, they do show the gobblers being beheaded, not in graphic detail, just the guy putting them head first into the machine, and a machine stand with alot of blood on it.
If you have never seen this done, or haven't performed it yourself, most folks won't notice it.

Yes, I have killed my own dinner.

Re: Happy Turkey Day From Sarah Palin - mick e - 11-24-2008

Are you a vegetarian, $tevie?

If not - knowing where your food comes from is actually a valuable thing. NOT knowing, or turning a blind eye to our food-sources only serve to dull the experience of eating.

Today, mick e is taking his two lambs to the butcher. He will miss them - at least until the first serving of Leg-Of -Lamb hits the dinner table. They are funny little guys and they had a wonderful, albeit short life bounding about on the e Farm pastures. However, it is time for them to serve the purpose for which they have been bred. Their purpose is to be food.

There is nothing more eye-opening than knowing your dinner, or satisfying. Many people think this is insane, but it really connects a person with their diet, consumption, and nutrition. Since he has been growing and raising his own food, mick e has learned to really appreciate and value what goes into a meal. The knowledge of the work it takes to plant, harvest and prepare a good dinner simply makes it taste better.
