Looking for a great road-warrior laptop bag - john dough - 11-25-2008
I have a Briggs and Riley bag (it is very nice) but I often find that for my business trips it is at capacity and at the end of the week, my shoulders are very sore. I am looking for a good bag that will hold my MacBook Pro, a Fujitsu S300M scanner, mouse/power/some cables/batteries/etc. and still have room for expansion (I have carried additional laptops in my bag for later repair).
I would like a very durable bag and hopefully not too fugly. I would like this one to have wheels as I would like to save my shoulder. I am not dead-set on Briggs and Riley but I like that they are pretty tough and look good.
I am not averse to spending some $$ on a good one so what is out there?

Take a looksie at this:
I bought the medium version for the Macbooks I just got for my office. Surprisingly nice!
Also, I like protective sleeves that fit the laptop perfectly. I then take the notebook within its sleeve and slip into whichever carrying back I happen to be using that day, i.e. backpack, Lands End Satchel bag, etc.

shoulder straps are much harder on the body than a back pack. sounds like your load would be backpackable.

Any backpack.
The basic Dell one is fine. The Crumpler ones are nice.
A lot of people I know use case on wheels like a pilots case. Good for an overnight trip aswell.

Tumi made a nice laptop backpack that would hold a laptop and a decent sized projector. I don't think that the original would hold a MBP, but the new one might. I've had the original one for almost 2 years now. It has held up quite well and looks very professional. The only complaint I have is that I have to unzip the top to pull the laptop out. I had an Ogio bag that had a side access compartment just for the laptop - great for getting through airport security. The problem with the bag is that stuff got lost in the bottom. With the Tumi, the top unzipped around three sides and the top flipped back to get the laptop out and see into the entire compartment. It makes it very easy to find everything.
