I have installed Ubuntu on my Eee PC, through sheer brilliance and determination, and without using a physical CD!!-gcti - Greg the dogsitter - 12-03-2008 Here, "sheer brilliance and determination" means "finding some software that makes this sort of thing easy." Based on the info at http://www.ubuntu-eee.com/ (thanks, MacResourcerers!), I used the Windows version of unetbootin to create a bootable flash drive, using a Ubuntu 8.10 ISO image The rest is history. "History" means "why isn't my WiFi showing up, when it did from the LiveCD and from the USB stick"? Well, at least progress is being made! Re: I have installed Ubuntu on my Eee PC, through sheer brilliance and determination, and without using a physical CD!! - nwyaker - 12-03-2008 I have been doing sleuthing info for Ubuntu install on my Wind and I did see a note on one of the Ubuntu forums about a WiFi fix. Good luck ! Re: I have installed Ubuntu on my Eee PC, through sheer brilliance and determination, and without using a physical CD!! - Greg the dogsitter - 12-03-2008 I checked, and WiFi wasn't actually available from USB. Meaning, the drivers weren't on the USB stick, and therefore weren't in the final install. Everything worked except for bluetooth but an ubuntu update fixed that. I've decided to stop trying to install OS X on it. I've got it loaded with everything I need & it's working fine, so I'm gonna leave it alone & let it be an XP machine. Wonder why they changed it? Yes, Ubuntu does make you appreciate OS X! (C'mon Apple with the netbook, plz) |
