iPhone is cheaper in France - Lux Interior - 12-08-2008

Even with the exchange rate: A 16 GB iPhone is €129 or $167 at today's rate.

Also, (I'm guessing this has to do with the laws in France) you can get an iPhone and do a pay-as-you-go plan. However, that will set you back €609 ($790)!

I've heard from others that your service provider is obliged to unlock your phone if you request it. But if you have already committed to a one year contract (possible here with the iPhone), I guess it won't really help.

I was tempted to get one, but I am going to hold out for another year (maybe). Hopefully AD2P will be available by then.

I just found out that iPhone data plans are now included in employer discount plans, meaning you can get a rate below $30/month for data if discounts are available to you. That wasn't the case for the original generation of phones.
