1st 'official' thread from the OS X Dell mini - DaviDC. - 12-08-2008 I think our fearless Leader has missed the boat on the netbook craze. Mac users seem to want a tiny laprop but the 'all knowing one' hasn't seen fit to provide. If I could put this little sucker to sleep & have it wake up & function normally I'd have no complaints at all with it. It even found my network & connected when I started it up this time with no intervention from me at all. I just got through looking for a larger SSD for it because I know 8GB isn't going to be enough in the long run. Only 2 companies carry them; one is out of stock & the other charges over $16 to ship something smaller than half a candy bar. BGnR Re: 1st 'official' thread from the OS X Dell mini - MacArtist - 12-08-2008 I really like Apple's hardware but I too feel Steve is missing the boat. I like the accessibility the iPod Touch provides to email and the web but the screen is a bit too small for me. A 9" screen would be heaven. Price it realistically and people will buy it. Is there SSD hard drive easily accessed in the Dell Mini? Re: 1st 'official' thread from the OS X Dell mini - p8712 - 12-08-2008 The Voodoo 9.5 Kernel will give you normal sleep and wake. So will this prefpane http://www.jinx.de/SmartSleep.html if you don't know how to change the kernel. If it's going to ever be a usable computer, the SSD has GOT to be upgraded. There's 7.1GB available out of 8GB & the OS is about 6GB. This is after running Monolingual on it, which freed up almost a GB. None of the USB ports are working. The only USB item that shows up in System Profile is the Webcam. The battery doesn't show up either. There's a PowerManagement package in one of the updates I downloaded & I just put it in my Shared Folder so the Dell can find it the next time I turn it on. The Dell & Asus are both very easy to get into. Both have a panel on the bottom held in place with 2 screws. I also got an email from the company that charges $16 for shipping, letting me know that it comes from Japan & must be insured. Re: 1st 'official' thread from the OS X Dell mini - guitarist - 12-09-2008 I think Dell makes the greatest computers on earth! Who needs Apple? Dells work really great with Windows OS too. What do you need Mac OS for?
