I wonder what they'll do to Joe The Shoe Thrower - GGD - 12-14-2008 Will he be able to write a book? (CNN) -- President Bush made a farewell visit Sunday to Baghdad, Iraq, where he met with Iraqi leaders and was targeted by an angry Iraqi man, who jumped up and threw shoes at Bush during a news conference. Among Muslims, throwing shoes at someone, or sitting so that the bottom of a shoe faces another person, is considered an insult. The man was dragged out screaming after throwing the shoes. Bush ducked, and the shoes, thrown one at a time, sailed past his head during the news conference with Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki in his palace in the heavily fortified Green Zone. http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/meast/12/14/bush.iraq/index.html Re: I wonder what they'll do to Joe The Shoe Thrower - swampy - 12-14-2008 I gotta admire Bush's ability to express some humor in what must have been a very tense moment. "Bush said: "That was a size 10 shoe he threw at me, you may want to know." Reading at FoxNews the offender was identified. "This is the end!" shouted the man, later identified as Muntadar al-Zeidi, a correspondent for Al-Baghdadiya television, an Iraqi-owned station based in Cairo, Egypt." http://www.foxnews.com/politics/elections/2008/12/14/bush-arrives-iraq-surprise-farewell-visit/ Re: I wonder what they'll do to Joe The Shoe Thrower - Octave Doctor - 12-14-2008 Maybe he just left to reload. At least that guy could actually throw--I doubt that plumber guy could change a faucet washer. Re: I wonder what they'll do to Joe The Shoe Thrower - Seacrest - 12-14-2008 Who throws a shoe? Honestly. Re: I wonder what they'll do to Joe The Shoe Thrower - Black Landlord - 12-14-2008 swampy wrote: Bush looked drunk throughout the entire clip, with slurred speech, a dull stare, and generally slow movement and reactions. The misplaced attempt at humor came off as drunken behavior as well in context. What's going on with his health? Maybe there's more to the low profile he's been keeping lately. Re: I wonder what they'll do to Joe The Shoe Thrower - Black Landlord - 12-14-2008 Watched it a few more times, other coverage. Next time someone expresses hatred towards me I'm going to try having a nice little chuckle over it just to see what the benefits are. Smug insolent out of touch POS. Re: I wonder what they'll do to Joe The Shoe Thrower - swampy - 12-14-2008 He could be ill, but I doubt that he'd let the world know it. I've noticed a slow down in his speech and walk. He's sure to be very very tired. Look, he's the POTUS. He represents us. Respect the office even if you don't like the man. That jerk was throwing shoes at our President. Re: I wonder what they'll do to Joe The Shoe Thrower - Black Landlord - 12-14-2008 The man has the blood of hundreds of thousands of innocents on his hands swampy. He charged into a war in the wrong country and devastated it for his own personal gain and for those around him. Respect has to be earned. His was squandered long ago. He has disgraced the office, and frankly I find it un-american that you're not willing to celebrate your freedom to acknowledge that. Re: I wonder what they'll do to Joe The Shoe Thrower - swampy - 12-15-2008 BL For his own personal gain... What has he gained? The hatred and derision of his fellow Americans? Yeah, that is really something to shoot for. You know, I don't recall a hue and cry when Tommy Franks set the troops loose on Iraq. Where were all you naysayers then? Hind sight is 20/20. Respect has to be earned. His was squandered long ago. He has disgraced the office, and frankly I find it un-american that you're not willing to celebrate your freedom to acknowledge that. That's your opinion, BL and you are entitled to it. What I don't understand is why, because I disagree with you, I'm "un-American". Do you celebrate your freedom by denying mine? We'd still be British subjects if it wasn't for opposing views. Re: I wonder what they'll do to Joe The Shoe Thrower - graylocks - 12-15-2008 guess they'll have to retool metal detectors to pick up rubber soles. |
