If you look at this first graphic and compare it to the second, some states swap positions. If you were to believe journalists, it would seem investigations and prosecutions are vastly different from one state to another.

This chart needs to account for population differences. It shouldn't shock anyone that Texas had more convicted officials than Rhode Island.

Your chart doesn't account for population. It should be number of officials per capita. That's the most important chart, and the one you chose to leave off your post.

Which political party is more corrupt? It's hard to say but I found a link that shows the Members of Congress Who Were Convicted of or Pled Guilty to Major Offenses, 1992-1999. The Democrats lead 16 to 4 making them 4 times (or 300%) more corrupt than Republicans by that standard. http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2008/12/parties_of_corruption.html

That chart does not allow for smart corrupt officials who don't get caught. So it is more like a chart of stupid officials, eh?

Feh. By counting from 1997 to 2006, that list left off Spiro Agnew and Marvin Mandel, back-to-back governors with corruption convictions, though only Mandel went to the pokey. That means Maryland should be higher on the list. We want a recount!
Mandel should have been convicted for his suits alone. He was a small man and wore the loudest plaids imaginable in the 1970s, and that was saying something.

I think Marvin should get extra points for a pretty hilarious divorce, with his wife throwing him out of the governor's mansion and telling him to see a shrink after he got caught fooling around.
