My heart does not go out to these poor prisoners in TX - samintx - 12-15-2008 http://www.beaumontenterprise.com/news/local/prisoners_in_leblanc_unit_file_suit__claim_hurricane_ike_should_have_prompted_evacuation_12-13-2008.html I really think there should be some limit on from prison lawsuits. The prisoners had no regard for other's rights that is why they are in prison....I cannot see the storm cutting off electricity etc affected them in lockup any more than it affected me in the outside world. I think they are just trying to poke a finger in the eye of the judicial system Re: My heart does not go out to these poor prisoners in TX - cbelt3 - 12-15-2008 Prisoners file more frivolous suits than anyone. Welcome to the 'open access to the courts' legal system. Unfortunately there isn't a lot you can do reasonably to limit that without affecting normal citizens. Re: My heart does not go out to these poor prisoners in TX - mattkime - 12-15-2008 how do you suggest that our legal system addresses prisoner mistreatment? I have no idea what the solution is but there must be one without, as cbelt3 says, limits our legal rights. Re: My heart does not go out to these poor prisoners in TX - OWC Jamie - 12-15-2008 All they need is kindness, then they would be model citizens. [/sarcasm] Idle minds have idle time. Free labor for O's "WPA" program which has no source of funds. Re: My heart does not go out to these poor prisoners in TX - MacMagus - 12-15-2008 Nothing on its face or in the linked-story suggests that this is a frivolous lawsuit. Let's see how YOU do drinking contaminated water for 3 days while locked in a cell knowing nothing more than that a disaster might strike at any second. Re: My heart does not go out to these poor prisoners in TX - Gutenberg - 12-15-2008 There are some things you can't do much about, and one of those things is the weather. I think the judge should reverse his decision about splitting the cases, declare it a class action, install closed circuit tv temporarily in the prison recreation room, and get it over with. Re: My heart does not go out to these poor prisoners in TX - cbelt3 - 12-15-2008 And what will the people who were imprisoned in New Orleans during the flooding get if they sue ? (All those people who were trapped on the bridges, in the Superdome, etc.) ? And kept from moving around ? Bupkis, that's what. "Act of god", "weather", etc... Re: My heart does not go out to these poor prisoners in TX - swampy - 12-15-2008 What a crock. The prisoners were better off than many in the general population that had no generator to restore lights, radio, tv and who may not have gotten a boil water notice at all. They are no more entitled to protection from "fear" than I am. And so what if they didn't get storm information. They're not in a position to act on it anyway. There's nothing in the article that says the prison staff acted malevolent manner or caused them harm. I wanna be on the jury!!! |
