Congress gets a pay raise - swampy - 12-21-2008 I don't know about you, but I don't think the Congress Critters should accept this pay raise ($4700 each). In the spirit of "we doing our share to help the economy and the tax payers", they should vote to block it. http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story/CCAGW-Opposes-Congressional-Pay-Raise/story.aspx?guid={007BF1E0-7542-4B52-909B-6A1EFE8282C2} Re: Congress gets a pay raise - Black Landlord - 12-21-2008 I don't quite understand why, but I have the same problem with Marketwatch links from my portal page breaking, and I can never find the article when I try to search the Marketwatch site. Re: Congress gets a pay raise - Mac-A-Matic - 12-21-2008 According to The Hill, the average lawmaker makes $169,300 per year. Nancy Pelosi, that lovable democrat, takes home $217,400. And we really believe that these people can relate to the average joe making one third (or less) of their salaries? I like what Daniel O'Connell of the TSCL had to say: "As lawmakers make a big show of forcing auto executives to accept just $1 a year in salary, they are quietly raiding the vault for their own personal gain." So much for "change" under democratic control of the government... But to be fair, it was a democrat from Arizona, Harry Mitchell, who sponsored legislation to prevent the automatic pay increase. Of course, it failed to make it out of committee. Re: Congress gets a pay raise - swampy - 12-21-2008 LOL, BL... We can only hope. Re: Congress gets a pay raise - Black Landlord - 12-21-2008 In a world where the majority of people went into politics for the right reasons (desire to serve the public) it would be completely expected that Congress would vote down the raise due to the current state of the economy, as a show of solidarity, recognition, acknowledgment, or at the very least as a cheap gesture to bolster public regard. |
