RapidWeaver and MANY Questions - IronMac - 12-23-2008
Hi all,
Been playing around with RW over the past week and I've tried to upload a site. First off, I used Transmit to create a folder in my webspace:
/home/username/public_html/ironmac/RWsite
And then I did a Copy Path:
sftp://IP address//home/username/public_html/ironmac/RWsite
Which I pasted into the Publishing Setting's "Path" and everything uploaded but nothing showed when I went to:
www.ironmac.ca/RWsite.
So, I used Transmit to look for the files but the RWsite folder is empty and I can't seem to find the files anywhere.
Ok...so I then go into my Home Directory through the host's control panel and I find the files under:
home/username/sftp/IP address/home/username/public_html/ironmac/RWsite
First off, when I give RW the Publishing Settings, what should they have been?
Second, why does Transmit not show everything in my webspace?

P.S. Would it be a problem if I simply deleted the "sftp" folder through my host's directory and re-uploaded the whole thing?

I have to say this is a little but confusing. Why is your directory path so long? Normally (for me) I would have something like "http ://www.website.com/~username/index.html"
and within the "~username/" folder I might have an "html" folder and an "images" folder.

A lot of folks swear by Rapidweaver, but I, and a lot of others it seems, swear AT Rapidweaver.

Disconnecting and reconnecting through Transmit now shows the "sftp" folder. I suspect that RW "creates" a (sub)directory based on the path that you give it. I'm not too crazy about that since I just want it to upload the files that it's created.
I'm going to (when I get home) use Transmit to simply move the files over to the "RWsite" folder that I've made. Fingers crossed on that.
P.S. As for why the directory path seems so long, it's just what I am reading/copying from Transmit. It has a "Copy Path" command which is what I used.
P.P.S. RW's themes look nice but I suspect that I will have to work on customizing them.
The program is very simple to use, though!

I see. I also use Transmit to just FTP stuff as I see fit.

My experience with RapidWeaver (I made one site) was that after I was done authoring it, I had to Export it to actually get HTML stuff I could work with on the web. I re-read your original post, and I don't see that mentioned anywhere.
Then, take the exported files and upload those with Transmit.
Does that work any better?

I use the Publish menu item in RW. Path is simply mywebsite/public_html
Try usin Transmit or something similar (I prefer Cyberduck, but that's just me) to look at your directories on the host server and go by that.
Or perhaps a message to your host support people is in order.
