2008 Almost Gone - Are You Nervous About '09? - Rick-o - 12-31-2008 With all the negatives that happened in '08, I'm wondering what 2009 will bring. More political scandal? Most certainly. It seems to be the growing trend in this country. Financial ruin? I'm not too confident about this either. I'm fearful all hell may break loose with our economy. I feel I'm in pretty good shape financially, but if the house of cards falls, it'll probably take us all down. SJ rumors about leaving Apple, one way or another? Tell me it isn't so! Hopefully, that's only a rumor. We need this guy! Just a few issues on my mind at the moment. So, let's hear it, good or bad, what do you think 2009 will have in store for us? Maybe we should just hibernate and skip '09 all together? :dunno: Re: 2008 Almost Gone - Are You Nervous About '09? - mattkime - 12-31-2008 DOOOOOOOOM! ![]() Re: 2008 Almost Gone - Are You Nervous About '09? - cbelt3 - 12-31-2008 Less money, less business, more bills. Am I in good shape financially ? No. Will we survive ? Yep. But the garden in the back yard will definitely take form this year and grow much veggie goodness for us. If we can keep the chihuahuas from *cultivating* for us. Re: 2008 Almost Gone - Are You Nervous About '09? - kap - 12-31-2008 We are in the same boat with you cbelt3. We are looking into grow veggie and fruits in a hurry in our barren backyard. Wonder if the prices on plants, tree, seeds and such will go up now that many homeowners are thinking of growing their own food supply. Re: 2008 Almost Gone - Are You Nervous About '09? - dmann - 12-31-2008 Yes. I am very nervous although I am trying hard to be optimistic. DM Re: 2008 Almost Gone - Are You Nervous About '09? - AlphaDog - 12-31-2008 "He said, 'Smile, things could be worse.'" So I smiled. They got worse. How can one help but not be nervous about 2009? (And what happens to SJ is the least of my worries.) Economically, I'm not wiped out, but, being retired and living on a fixed income that barely pays the bills, I'm not looking forward to a very good year. At this point I'll settle for sustaining no more losses and hope to h3ll we aren't all blown to smithereens before 2009 ends. Re: 2008 Almost Gone - Are You Nervous About '09? - cbelt3 - 12-31-2008 Alpha- Did things finally melt over in the northwest ? Re: 2008 Almost Gone - Are You Nervous About '09? - blooz - 12-31-2008 Not hopeful about economy. I've been unemployed since February and most of the graphics jobs I've seen and applied to clearly are looking for someone younger and cheaper. When my unemployment runs out, you'll probably find me greeting people at the local Wal-Mart. Unless i get lucky and get a Burger king job. Would you like fries with that website? Re: 2008 Almost Gone - Are You Nervous About '09? - AlphaDog - 12-31-2008 Yup! Everything is green again at my house, although I see a couple of the neighbors still have small piles of snow left where they shoveled their driveways. (I didn't even try that!) Areas to the north, south, east, and west still have snow on the ground, but I live in the banana belt. I'm the rogue who enjoyed it, although I could have done nicely without the ice and 16 degrees. The part I really dislike is looking out at the clean up that needs to be done in the yard, and that limb is still laying across the top of my pickup. Somehow I get the feeling my son isn't too anxious to come over here and deal with it. He seems to be avoiding me. ![]() Re: 2008 Almost Gone - Are You Nervous About '09? - kap - 12-31-2008 So it is said with the current state of the economy, jobs in education and healthcare are quite safe. Both of my part-time employments are with the state of CA and its budget is abysmal. My S/O is an independent contractor with a privately funded pharmaceutical research company. |
