Replacement fan for OWC processor upgrade? - StingMe - 12-31-2008 I have an OWC Mercury Extreme G4 1.2GHz processor upgrade installed in a PowerMac G4 Sawtooth. The included fan is making a LOT of noise lately (still running at the moment, but it definitely sounds like the fan is on its way out). Does anyone have access to technical specs and/or a source for a suitable (and quiet) replacement? It looks like a 50mm fan with a 2-pin connector..NewEgg doesn't seem to carry any 2-pin models. Do I need a low, medium, or high speed fan for this application? What are some decent fan brands? I believe the processor's part number is OWCMEG41012L2S. Thanks! ![]() And yes, I contacted OWC directly but the only answer I got was that the warranty has run out, they don't sell the fans, and I should be able to find a replacement from a PC supply house or online. I inquired about the existing fan's specs this morning but haven't received a response. Re: Replacement fan for OWC processor upgrade? - Forrest - 12-31-2008 After going thru a few cheap sleeve bearing fans (which lasted about 1 month) on my Gigadesign G4 upgrade, I've had good luck with a MASSCOOL 5C12B3 50 mm ball bearing fan from Newegg ($3.99). Note this is a 3 pin fan - not sure how well it will work with the OWC upgrade. My Gigadesign upgrade originally had a 3 pin fan, and found out I could also use a 2 pin fan. I have a Mercury Extreme 1.5Ghz G4 upgrade (circa 2005). Any help would be greatly appreciated. |
