American Visionary Art Museum - DaviDC. - 01-24-2009 I came across this site & wondered if anybody from the Baltimore area has ever been to this museum? http://www.avam.org/ Re: American Visionary Art Museum - rapayn1 - 01-24-2009 I've been there. Twice now. It's different. :-) It's not bad but I do not know if it is for everyone. Some neat art there, but definitely not like the Smithsonian or even the Baltimore Museum of Art or the Walters Art Gallery. If you are in the area, it would be worth it to stop in. I would not recommend people go out of their way to see it, but if you were already planning on going to the Inner Harbor and over to see Ft. McHenry, then why not? Re: American Visionary Art Museum - ztirffritz - 01-24-2009 Kinda reminds me of the Mattress Factory in Pittsburgh. That is either a fantastic experience, or a head scratcher. Depends on the exhibits. Re: American Visionary Art Museum - $tevie - 01-25-2009 I was only there once but I really enjoyed it. I have no idea why I haven't gone back; it's terrible how lackadaisical one can get when something is right in one's backyard. Re: American Visionary Art Museum - Gutenberg - 01-25-2009 I go there fairly often. Some of the permanent exhibits are pretty cool, particularly the ones about Baltimore folk art like painted screens. Some of the other exhibits are kind of self-consciously precious. Their annual Fourth of July pet parade is an absolute hoot. Re: American Visionary Art Museum - DaviDC. - 01-25-2009 Thanks for the input, folks! |
