Fish Oil preferences? - beagledave - 01-24-2009

My cholesterol ain't what it should be. In addition to Rx, I'm looking at Omega 3 supplements. I've been taking stuff from Sams Club, but my dad swears by this stuff from Jarrow called Max DHA.

Anyone have a favorite fish oil supplement?

I use the Jarrow Max DHA too, it was recommended by my preventative cardiology clinic. I've been taking it (4 capsules/day) for over 10 years.

I've been getting a pretty good price on it from Vitacost.

Carlson's is supposed to be a good brand.

If I were going to take a fish oil supplement, I would would want to know what species of fish the oil came from. Fish that are high up in the food chain might contain higher levels of organic mercury.

You might mix in flax seed oil, borage oil, and evening primrose oil if you are concerned about mercury or have too much fish taste.

I grind up some flax seeds and add them to my daily smoothie. Could not stand the fishy taste of the fish oil. Yuckus

The capsules that I take have no taste (you just swallow, no chewing). For many years they had no smell either, but my most recent batch when you open the bottle, there is a bit of a fishy odor.
