Sloooooooooooooow Powerbook - kap - 01-25-2009 Our friend's 1.67GHz G4 powerbook has been experiencing sluggish performance. We have done PRAM and disk repair. What else can we try? Tia 10.4.11 OS 1.5 RAM 1.67GHz G4 powerbook 68.3Gb HD free space Re: Sloooooooooooooow Powerbook - space-time - 01-25-2009 try another user account run Onyx (clear cache, etc). worse case, reinstall OS X Re: Sloooooooooooooow Powerbook - GGD - 01-25-2009 Run activity monitor, see if something is taking a large percentage of the CPU time. Try to find a cause before applying random solutions. Re: Sloooooooooooooow Powerbook - SteveO - 01-25-2009 Ditto above. And empty the trash. Hey, it couldn't hurt. I changed the oil, rotated the tires, and changed the radio stations, shouldn't that fix it? Oh, BTW, I forgot to say I was trying to tow a 30,000 pound trailer, with a Ford Pinto, is that info important? Re: Sloooooooooooooow Powerbook - Doc - 01-25-2009 Do a safe-boot. Restart with the shift key held down. Continue to hold it until the swirly appears under the Apple logo. Restart at your earliest opportunity. Re: Sloooooooooooooow Powerbook - what4 - 01-26-2009 When I had that same problem, it turned out that one memory chip had failed. Go to System Profiler and see how much memory is showing. Run a memory test. Re: Sloooooooooooooow Powerbook - what4 - 01-26-2009 Actually, it was not the chip that failed on my PB. It was the lower chip socket, the one closest to the motherboard. |
