A little wind, rain, lightning, and thunder... - RAMd®d - 02-09-2009 ...are not all that uncommon here (East Bay Area, CA). But last night just as I was putting on my nightshirt and cap, a very rare power outage occurred. My only Macs powered up were my Mini and the big AlMac. None the worse for wear, apparently, I'll look closer later. The power was restored sometime within a five hour period- no worries. What was dramatically apparent was how dark the bedroom is when the power is out. Ambient light is quite high with all the LEDs on various and sundry equipment. I need to get a couple more flashlights, though. Re: A little wind, rain, lightning, and thunder... - Doc - 02-09-2009 I enjoy the quiet when we have a local power outage. Re: A little wind, rain, lightning, and thunder... - mrbigstuff - 02-09-2009 yeah, nothing like a power outage to get you on the flashlight tip the next day (or when power is restored). up in these parts, power was out to many homes for days on end after the ice storm in December. Re: A little wind, rain, lightning, and thunder... - Seacrest - 02-09-2009 Nightshirt and cap? Cap? Re: A little wind, rain, lightning, and thunder... - Wailer - 02-09-2009 There is a free iphone/ipod touch app called flashlight. In a totally dark area it provides a decent amount of "emergency" lighting. Your notebook can also do the same. After the 1993 Northridge earthquake, my powerbook 165 gave me enough light so that I didn't cut my feet on some broken glass as I stumbled around for a pair of shoes. Re: A little wind, rain, lightning, and thunder... - RAMd®d - 02-09-2009 I actually used one of the many flashlight apps on my 'Phone to find two of my flashlights, and one pack of batteries. But even the Contacts or Phone will take you to your address book and that provides a lot of light to get around. I was using my MB at the time and it provided a lot of light, but I didn't want to trip on something or otherwise drop it. But it lit up the room well. |
