wow. this is annoying - bazookaman - 03-09-2009

I tried filing my UE claim and it said it was excepted but cannot be processed b/c of a prior disqualification. Having never received UE in my life I cannot imagine what that could be.

But the best part is that it gives me an 800 number to call...which is BUSY! No message. No on hold. Just busy!

Hope you can get things straightened out.

I just googled it. Apparently its happening all over the country. thats nice. I guess they figure it must be easier and less hassle for everyone if all the people who cannot call just show up at the office.

this is happening everywhere, as you noted. you can't "show up at the office" (at least not around here) since there are no offices any longer.

it's what happens when there are lots of people trying to queue in the system and the support staff has not changed

we have an office here. of course its on the corner of crack and eightball. Unfortunately I have no other way to answer my question. No answer, no unemployment check.

I hope our governor here in CA is not going to demand furlough from the UE department as well!

Nah. You'll probably get an IOU.

'excepted' - made an exception of, i.e. rejected or
'accepted'?

Aside from my initial frustration trying to get the application process started, I had a surprisingly good experience with the unemployment office when I lost my job last year.

I couldn't apply online for some unknown reason so I had to go in to my local office. Near the door there were two stacks of forms with numbers stapled to them and no explanation anywhere as to what they were or what the numbers meant. No employees to ask as there weren't any that didn't have at least 2 people already waiting to talk to them and the other people in the waiting area did not speak English.

I finally figured out that I needed to 1. fill out the form that applied to me (one was for fired applicants and one was for laid off applicants) and 2. wait for the number to be called.

Turned out I couldn't file online because my former employer had my SS# wrong on my W2 and nobody noticed it (myself and my CPA included.) The person working with me found the error right away, was very quick about getting it corrected and helped me fill out a new form because according to IL, I was laid off, not fired. He was very nice and willing to help me.

I feel your pain and I wish you luck!
