My Leopard Install Disk Died - Grumpyguy - 03-10-2009 My G5 tower has been booting extremely slowly and getting slower all the time. I've tried everything I could think of (and everything you suggested) and startup times keep getting longer. I've fixed permissions, checked the drives. Trashed Finder to boot preferences, disabled automatic login launches, and so on..... With tomorrow off, I thought I would just reinstall Leopard to see if a fresh OS would fix what ails her. Mind you, I used the Leopard disk one time when it first came out (how long ago?) and I dutifully put it back in its original package/sleeve and put it up on the bookshelf. When I pulled it out tonight, it looks like something ate into the disk itself in two small spots. And of course the disk won't boot the machine. I tried to clean it, but it is definitely burned or eaten into. Can't imagine what ate into the disk, since it has been sitting untouched for over a year.... That kind of sucks. Since I have no Leopard disk, would reapplying the combo updater from Apple maybe accomplish the same thing to an extent? Re: My Leopard Install Disk Died - kj4btkljv - 03-10-2009 Do you have an Apple Retail store close to you? Maybe they would do an exchange for another copy of Leopard. It's worth a try. Jeff Re: My Leopard Install Disk Died - JoeH - 03-10-2009 There was a bad batch of Leopard DVD's put out near the beginning. Apple replaced those for anyone who had a defective disc. I would not be surprised if they still will. Re: My Leopard Install Disk Died - olnacl - 03-10-2009 That's why I always make a disk image of any new software I buy. Of course, the drive (backed up) I have my disk images on could fail, but that's another story. |
