Your government in action. They can't ban guns so they are sneaking in a "ban" in otherways. Current reloaders buy from the gov at .80 a pound, now the gov is going to get .08 cents a pound for "scrap" and it is sent to China. Remanufacturing is "green" and brings in good money to the Treasury plus our law inforcement along with private gun owners benefit with reasonsable prices.

Reload companies are now going to have to layoff employees...doesn't make sense...A green industry that keeps people working is now going down the drain.

Looks like the problem has already been solved.

We will be posting the email we received from DOD as well as any additional information within the next 12-16 hours. Thanks so much and lets get to work!!! Georgia Arms

and...

Thanks to you out there, this lady and many other long-time employees of Georgia Arms and all the other remanufacturers of expended military brass will now continue to be gainfully employed...

Sanm,

Nothing in that link at all says China is the only or primary buyer of the scrap in question. For all you know, the scrap brass is being sold to US companies to be used to produce a slew of different products for other US companies to be used in the US. That brass may even work its way into a product you use every day.

This move may reduce the cost of brass produced by domestic companies. That would be a very good thing since the cost of brass has skyrocketed over the years. The increases and market fluctuations have gotten to the point where companies that buy brass products often have no idea how much they'll pay for a given product until the day they need it.

Seems like a non-issue now, though.

Robert

I heard a few days ago that Washington is planning to require that each cartridge casing have a serial number stamped on it, making ammunition makers to add a step in the manufacturing process. If they are going to do something like that to trace who fired the shot they should require the number to be on the bullet. Most of them are lawmakers so stupid that they probably do not realize that there are two parts to a "bullet".

Yesterday I was at Cabela's just south of Austin, TX. The gun counter was jammed with maybe 50 customers buying their guns and ammunition before more restrictive laws are passed.

I was in Dick's Sporting Goods the weekend after the election. The place was packed. I was speaking with the Manager and made the comment that it looked like business was good. His comment was that the only things selling were guns and ammunition. In fact he had to expedite an order of both to keep up with demand.

You do realize that's usually made of soft lead?

That's why gun-sellers make such noise about "proposed" laws.

BTW: http://www.factcheck.org/askfactcheck/are_states_going_to_require_serial_numbers.html

Despite the urgent tone of this widely forwarded message, which we have been asked about dozens of times, the "Ammunition Accountability Act" so far has shown few signs of life. The National Research Council last year, in a report requested by the Department of Justice, called the technology "promising" but stopped short of recommending any requirement, and instead called for more research and competition.

The idea is being pushed mainly by a single company that holds a patent on bullet-coding technology, so far without much success. Last year lawmakers in 18 states proposed legislation that would require handgun ammunition to be coded, but not one of those bills came to a vote or even made it out of committee. In 2005 the California state Senate approved a so-called "Ammunition Accountability" measure by a vote of 21 to 18, but the proposal then died in the Assembly without coming to a vote there.

How'd you know I was planning a shooting spree at Target?

Do have any idea how many emails I've received in the past week on this?
The first or second line, of the email, blames Obama for this idea
when it's state legislation not Federal. I personally don't see this happening.
As a multiple gun owner myself I'm not worried at this point, the sky's not falling.
My BIL also didn't bother to research this crap before sending nearly everyone
he knows. It's not new legislation.
