Arrrrgh, Brother MFC-7820N dying on me, need a replacement... - PeterB - 04-05-2009 ... the problem seems to be mechanical-- there's a plastic door catch which is getting stuck, making it nearly impossible to open the front of the printer in order to get the toner cartridge out, and when you close it, it doesn't go back all the way, so that the printer makes horrible grinding noises and won't print anything. I actually have two of these printers, and really like them, so I'd be tempted to get another or at least something with which the consumables are all compatible (since I'll have leftover toners and drums, etc.). Anyone seen any especially good deals recently? (These ones were $120 plus shipping, after the $150 refurb deal from Staples, less a coupon.) It seems the MFC-7820N itself is now discontinued... Re: Arrrrgh, Brother MFC-7820N dying on me, need a replacement... - space-time - 04-05-2009 they make a wireless version now, I guess it uses the same toner/cartridge Just curious, how long have you had this unit and how many pages have you printed? I got mine abut a year ago but I print very little (the reason why the ink was always dry in the previous printer) and now I have it networked and I love it. I just turn it off in the evening (it uses 6W on standby) and sometimes I leave it off for several days until I need to print again. Once it's ON for the day, it stays ON until I shut off in the evening. Re: Arrrrgh, Brother MFC-7820N dying on me, need a replacement... - PeterB - 04-05-2009 Doc, no, don't think I can -- doubt I could really fix it without taking the whole thing apart... it's a lever which apparently pulls forward and then releases a fitting which sticks into the toner cart/drum-- if it doesn't pull forward, you can't get the cart/drum out. I've had this for maybe a year or two (it was a Staples refurb), and have used it quite a bit. The wireless version -- looks to be MFC-7840W -- doesn't use the same cart/drum...
