Cannot use 24" 2.8 iMac restore discs on 20" 2.16 iMac? - Psurfer - 04-17-2009 Preparing a 20" iMac 2.16ghz for sale. I thought I'd install Leopard using the discs that came w/my 24" 2.8 iMac, but I get a message that says: cannot install OSX on this computer. Is there a way around this, or do I need to install Leopard w/a retail disc (which I also have)? Re: Cannot use 24" 2.8 iMac restore discs on 20" 2.16 iMac? - rz - 04-17-2009 nope, you need a retail Leopard disc Re: Cannot use 24" 2.8 iMac restore discs on 20" 2.16 iMac? - Psurfer - 04-17-2009 Ok, next Q: I'd like to have the newly installed system start up for the new user at the Welcome screen. Is there a way, after 1st installing the retail Leopard OS, to then add the iApps from the 20"'s 10.4 restore disc/s, but still retain the Welcome screen at start-up for the purchaser? edit: I'm going to ask the above in a new thread Re: Cannot use 24" 2.8 iMac restore discs on 20" 2.16 iMac? - StingMe - 04-17-2009 And don't forget to include that retail disc in the sale ![]() I'd restore the system using the original discs that came with the iMac, run updates, reset the system http://forums.macresource.com/read.php?1,310130,310161#msg-310161 and then offer the Leopard disc separately... Should work unless Apple did something to make the iApp installer only install to the boot drive. Re: Cannot use 24" 2.8 iMac restore discs on 20" 2.16 iMac? - C(-)ris - 04-17-2009 Maybe you should just include the OS that you legally own on the machine, unless you are including the 10.5 DVD with the machine. Re: Cannot use 24" 2.8 iMac restore discs on 20" 2.16 iMac? - Psurfer - 04-17-2009 pinkoos, so it's restart the forsale iMac in FW T-mode, right? (I started another thread for this iApps question, take your pick to reply...) Re: Cannot use 24" 2.8 iMac restore discs on 20" 2.16 iMac? - Psurfer - 04-17-2009 Ok, I promise to include the retail disc. If he wants to pay for it. The forsale iMac is your "target disk" and your iMac will be where you're installing from. So, the iApps CD/DVD should be in the optical drive of your iMac, not the forsale iMac. Just restore with the 10.4 media that came with it and you are done. But obviously you have no morals. |
