Can this Dell be hacked to run OSX? - Wags - 04-17-2009 Blu-ray, HDMI, 7.1 channel High Definition Audio, etc - seems like it would make a nice media device, at a decent price. Apple, are you paying attention? You lost market share last quarter. Can't the Mac Mini offer similar options? I'd be willing to pay the Apple tax for it. Pretty amazing considering the onslaught of $150 netbooks... Re: Can this Dell be hacked to run OSX? - BigGuynRusty - 04-17-2009 Wags wrote:Once hacked, the BluRay drive will be useless. BGnR Re: Can this Dell be hacked to run OSX? - jdc - 04-17-2009 where are these $150 netbooks? Re: Can this Dell be hacked to run OSX? - Wags - 04-17-2009 This is what I was looking at, could be semantics: On Wednesday, Gartner Research reported that Apple’s (AAPL) share of the U.S. computer market, which topped 9% in calendar Q3 last year, dropped to 7.4% in Q1 2009 — putting it in fourth place behind HP (HPQ), Dell (DELL) and Acer. Fortune I've never bought anything but Apple since my SI in the 90's, still I'm wondering why they haven't offered a better media device. I'd think that would be a no brainer, as media content is most surely headed towards streaming (and I'd like to say goodbye to Direct TV). Re: Can this Dell be hacked to run OSX? - jdc - 04-17-2009 and again, if you think apple gives a rats a$$ about market share, you are kidding yourself Re: Can this Dell be hacked to run OSX? - C(-)ris - 04-17-2009 jdc wrote: People don't understand... Apple would rather sell fewer well designed machines at a very high profit margin than sell a lot of poorly designed machines at a tiny profit margin. They are in it to make money, not increase market share. Re: Can this Dell be hacked to run OSX? - jdc - 04-17-2009 id say even more than to just make money -- they actually *care* about how things work -- be it OS X or macbooks Re: Can this Dell be hacked to run OSX? - rz - 04-17-2009 Wags wrote: Then why don't you buy one? If it has "everything" you want... oh, right. It runs Vista. Not such a bargain now, is it? Re: Can this Dell be hacked to run OSX? - Sam3 - 04-17-2009 I would say that Apple does care about market share. If they don't have market share, then they aren't selling any machines, therefore their profits plummet. What has Steve done since he's been back? Oh that's right, increased market share. If there is no market for a computer, then there is no incentive for programmers to create programs for said computer. Again, market share is important. |
