Seeking recommendation for a bicycle pump - kap - 04-17-2009
Any particular brands to avoid? Size matters: small and portable as I don't want to add more weight to my already heavy loaded commuter bike. TiA

I think any brand of portable pump will be fine; they're only meant to be used in emergencies.
Make sure that you have a good stand pump with a built in pressure gauge; this is what you'll be using on a regular basis. Mine can accommodate both presta and schrader valves, and can pump up to 160 psi.

The Topeaks with the fold out foot pads are the only mini pumps that come remotely close to giving adequate pressure without ending up drenched in sweat from the exertion.

Disagree with the "any brand fine" comment-- most of them are just plain awful.

I can't recommend a specific model since the one I have may be 8 or 10 years old, but very smart design-- amazingly effective for such a small package.

I finally sold my Silca made with Columbus tubing. They were tops
in their day. It was orange like the first one.

do you bike far from gas stations? if you don't, then you can get a normal floor pump.
I'm extremely happy with my nashbar pump. Bicycle Magazine likes it as well.
