Quick Audio Input Question - steveroberts - 04-18-2009
Friends,
I bought an Olympus TP7 for recording phone calls: http://www.amazon.com/Olympus-TP-7-Telephone-Recording-Device/dp/B000GU88CQ/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
After purchase, I notice that it needs a "powered" input, and perhaps that's why I can't get it to work with the input on my Intel iMac.
It also will not work with my Behringer mixer.
What would be a good way to get sound from this mic into my iMac?

From one of the reviews at Amazon:
one thing: this mic doesn't have its own power source, so whatever recording device you plug it into must be able to supply power. i used an olympus VN-2100 digital recorder and it worked almost flawlessly. i say almost because the mic doesn't record in stereo, it records in mono. but the record volume is loud and comes out very very clear even if the earpiece/mic isn't right on top of the phone receiver.
Apparently your recording device needs to supply the power.

My Griffin iMic will do it, but I get a terrible hum. I think it's on its last legs, and I've not been happy with the product (too flimsy).
Looking for something else that could do this, but I'm confused by phantom power vs. phono pre-amp. Is that the same thing?
This product has phono pre-amp, but I'm not sure it will work.

Doesn't your mixer have phantom power? I have a fairly cheap Behringer mixer and it has phantom power.

Yes, the mixer does have phantom, but the mic has 1/8" plug.
I tried to run the mic through a direct box and then into the XLR input on the Behringer. But, with phantom power on, there was no input signal from the mic.
