I never thought this day would happen... - DaviDC. - 05-30-2009

I finally filled up my 20 GB iPod.

A few nights ago I went on a free MP3 download rampage at Amazon.com & that did it.
Guess it's time to start looking out for a good deal on an iPod Classic.

My original 10GB iPod never held more that 1/3 of my music library once I'd ripped 100+ CDs. The additional free MP3 binges just made it worse.

My last one was finding somebody with a full set of the Science Songs we sang in 3rd grade,

Great stuff. Great memories. Would not keep them on the pod, though.

My 120 GB iPod classic is half full, or empty depending on your outlook. My home server, a Mac Mini with an external drive has over 500 gigs of music.

That's what playlists are for. :-)

Realistically, though, unless you're away from your computer for weeks on end, and listening to music constantly, you don't *have to* have all that music on there.

Although, I certainly understand the coolness of having the ability to play any song from your collection at any time, anywhere.

I've got a 20 gig and about 60 gigs of music. Yeah, that's what playlists are for, but the biggest reason it'd be nice for me to have more space than music is that you don't have to deal with it. No, I don't need ALL my music all the time, but just not having to deal with it in the first place would be nice.

That is why there are smart playlists. I used to have a 60GB iPod photo that could hold my entire collection. Now I use my 8 GB iPhone most of the time. among my playlists, I have a smart one that selects a number of songs that I have not listened to in the last 60 days. Every time I sync, I get some songs from the back catalog.

My 60 GB iPod holds only about 20% of my music collection.
