How many people and stuff can you get in a Prius? - samintx - 06-01-2009
Say, a family of 4 and a dog. would they fit comfortably in a Prius with luggage going on a trip to grandmas?
How much would a 4500.00 tax credit go to buy one? I have no idea how much the Volt costs and if the battery cars are expensive (I think they are and the batteries to replace are hugely expensive)
I guess, in short...a good family car? (for space)

According to Toyota luggage capacity is 21.6 cu. ft. I am assuming that is not in the passenger compartment?

Name some other car that you are familiar with the will carry the load that you describe so it's easier to understand what sort of car you're trying to compare to.
BTW: Do know know of a single person that has paid to replace a battery in a Prius? In California the warranty of the Prius battery is 10 years or 150,000 miles.

Just an ordinary sedan car that a family would normally buy if they were not going GREEN...the only comparison I have. Something that would take a family of 4 to grandmas with luggage.

I'm not sure about the 2010, but the current Prius has about the same passenger and luggage space as the Chevy Malibu.

I've been told the Prius is amazingly spacious. And, come on, "luggage for four" is a moving target! I can tell you never traveled with my husband, who wanted to make sure he had absolutely everything he could possibly need with him. He couldn't have taken a trip alone in a car that small.

No pricetag on the Volt as it isn't available yet (and may never be).

Last I heard, GM said the Volt will be $39,000. It is supposed to be on schedule for release in late 2010 but they are changing the model year, calling it a 2011 instead of 2010.
