Water Heater broke! hand me the waterwings! - samintx - 06-27-2009

At 7:00 a.m. this morn as I was trotting to the computer room to turn on the computer I went thru about 1" of H2O. Crappolla. Got a plumber out of bed and within 1 1/2 hrs and 900.00 dollars later I was back in business....but mopping and vacuuming water. Hey SHAMWOW really works. a godsend.

Well, the WH was put in 1980 when the house was built so I guess I've gotten my money's worth out of it...and I won't outlast the warranty on this new Rhem...but hey I saved a bundle even with Weekend overtime labor.

The a/c plumber I used to use and finally stopped tried to sell me the Brooklyn Bridge every time they came for the checkup. He wanted to put in a new water heater for 5000.00 because it would take that to get my installation "up to code". Little did I know...sounded fishy to me so I declined and never used them again.

The rug isn't so much a problem but the parquet floors in the dining room and hall...I'm keeping my fingers crossed. May have to do some glueing. Any suggestions?

Give the wood floors a week or two to dy out before making a decision.

I had a flood that soaked a parquet floor, raised the grain and appeared to discolor the floor pretty badly, but with a week to dry out it was looking fine again.

At the risk of stating the obvious, I'd certainly run a dehumidifier for quite a while if you can.

You got a very good deal on the WH install.

And your old one lasted a very long time.

I caught my water heater's small leak early enough to do something about it, luckily I have a friend that's a plumber, called him up early in the morning, and he bumped me to the top of the list, had a brand spanking new super duper energy efficient heater in place and working by lunch.

And it only cost me $600 plus wings and beer at lunch.

Run several fans over the area for a couple of weeks.
