Oh I don't, maybe the OS, databases, preferences, settings, notes, contacts, bookmarks, SMS conversations....

The "Other" category has 941MB of data? I have G-Maps Western US, could that be the data?

Data is definitely a part of it.
If you add or use a lot of apps, you see the Other part increase is size.
