Weeds coming up between pavers - wurm - 08-02-2009

We have lots of weeds coming up between and around the pavers I laid down a few years ago. At the time, I thought I was doing things right by digging several inches deep, laying down landscape fabric, then a few inches of sand on top of the fabric, then the pavers, but the damn weeds keep coming back, and I'm getting annoyed.

Should I deal with them the fun way (flamethrower), the chemical way (Round-Up or the like), or the PITA way (remove pavers, pull the weeds, lay down new landscape fabric, fresh sand, re-lay pavers? I'm going to pull up the plastic landscape edging that I put down anyway, because that has seen the wrath of the lawnmower a few times and is coming apart in several places.

Bear in mind, I want to do this as cheaply as possible, but I'd like to get more than a few months without weeds out of whatever I do.

So whaddya think?

Roundup, then a pre-emergent. Better living through chemistry!

Depending on what they are, they may be growing in the sand along with whatever other dirt may have worked it's way in. Nothing you can do about that. If so, don't redo it. I'd go Roundup when necessary, but some people don't like the chemicals.

roundup in the pavers is part of the weekly lawn cycle.

landscaping fabric doesn't do any good when there is sufficient sad and dirt on TOP of it so that weeds can grow.

I'd use roundup. its pretty safe as far as those chemicals go.

Landscape fabric works to keep weeds from coming up through the fabric, but weeds can grow in the dirt/sand that is above the fabric. They are usually prevented from taking root through the fabric.
edit-I started typing this awhile ago--I forgot to hit post--and by then it was covered above---sorry to be redundant.

I have the same problem and nothing to do but deal with it. Perhaps goggling will find a solution, though I doubt it.

The newest Round-Up combines the pre-emergent with it. It's the one that they show in the spots that
has two bottles - and they combine into one. Sort of "GunSlinger" fashion.

Since it is new, expect to pay full price - unless you are going to mix your own versions into an
Ortho Dial-A-Spray. That's what I do, but I enjoy working with various toxins for relaxation.

Thanks, folks. Time to round up some Round Up, I guess.

Vinegar will kill them too, but it might not get the roots. Still, if you want to be a little more environmental, it might be worth a try.
