Ever had a complete freeze up? - Mac1337 - 08-12-2009

It is very, very rare but It just happened to me while I was visiting a site. The machine completely froze, like the old OS 9 days. No mouse, not even the force quite box would come up. I had to manually shut it down and restart. I was in the middle of typing a document and lost some work.

I typically attribute those to a hardware.

Yep, that is generally indicative of a hardware problem of some sort. Could be a failing hard drive, bad RAM, CPU overheating, bad logic board...

Microsoft has managed to do that to my MacPro several times over the years. Typing in Word than poof! Nothing. No keyboard or mouse. No nothing. Had to do a hard restart. These problems were on 3 different MacPros btw, so i don't think it was a hardware issue.

USB flash drives used to do that to my old G3 iBook and still do it to my old G4 PowerMac desktop.
