Hard drive for G5 iMac isight? - h linamen - 08-13-2009

I know these model takes the SATA drives. Will any sata drive work in the mac? I am looking at this hitachi 500gb at OWC.

Yes, any capacity 3.5" SATA hard drive is going to work in your iMac G5.

An iMac iSight needs a hard drive? The iSight is already built in.

Be warned that it's not trivial replacing the HD in the white imacs. You really should check out the how-tos and watch the videos and factor a couple of hours and frayed nerves. Maybe not as bad as a white ibooks but a lot of stuff and cables that can be torn.

Yes, the G5 iSight was the beginning of the end of easily replaced HDs.

The model before that was much easier to deal with, although upgrading RAM meant removing the back. Still, that's why I bought mine, and will need to replace the HD soon, as it's going to a friend.
