I'm not sure if "push up" is a good name for this exercise - freeradical - 09-18-2009

In my swimming workout, I did some very strange/difficult "push ups". At the edge of the pool, I had to put my hands on the deck of the pool, and lift myself straight up, lower myself down, straight up, down, repeat until arms dead.

What would this be called?

The Triceps Terrors. Or,
The Deltoid Destroyers.

...and that's my final word.

Failing to get out of the pool?

What are you doing in the pool? I am seeing snow on the horizon soon.

LOL. That's easy enough. All I have to do is lift myself up high enough so that I can roll out of the pool.

I live in the Sacramento area.

I do that.

I also do a kind of crunch where I put my back to the wall, stretch my arms out and grab the side of the pool and then repeatedly lift my legs out of the water.

Dips. Seriously. Even when not done in a pool (and they're usually not) they're still called dips.

AllGold is correct, they're called dips.

dips, but dips are usually done with the arms fairly close to the body, no?
