"Keyhole" surgery is less invasive with fewer complications and less scarring than traditional surgery, so I'd probably opt for it whenever it was an option and if I'm ever in need of surgery and the best surgeon is not available locally, but offers to provide his services via robotics, I will gladly let him do his thing remotely.

Well, as somebody who as actually performed surgery with the robot, I would caution you that there is a lot of "excitement" and media attention to this device, but it is not necessarily the greatest thing for every surgery. It is heavily advertised, usually by hospitals, to gain market share. In my opinion, it is useful for certain kidney operations and a whole lot less useful for prostate surgery. It is far more important that the surgeon operating on you is skilled and thoughtful than the use of some new tool.

My mom (81) recently had open heart surgery recently that was performed with 3 "keyholes" by a remotely operated "robot". Recovery time was amazing- she was feeling ok after a couple of days. They repaired one of her valves that wasn't working.
Based on her experience, I wouldn't hesitate to allow it.
