Should I call animal control? - freeradical - 10-03-2009

A nearby neighbor left their dog outside, and it has been barking incessantly for hours. I'll never be able to get to sleep if I keep my window open like I normally do at night.

Have you tried talking to the neighbor?

They're not home. That's the problem.

I once had a neighbor who had a perfectly angel on a dog, but as soon as they left it howled and barked constantly until they returned. They never knew there was a problem. Fortunately they moved away!

Do both, talk to them and call animal control.

However, it is hard to teach an old dog new tricks!

I would call animal control. Cruelty to animals. Local noise/barking ordinance.

Joe

Edit: What he just said, dog barking when no one home. Had county animal control come out and talk to me to see if I was leaving my dogs out. Told them dogs are allowed to go into air conditioned house during day, i installed doggy doors. Only time they bark is when someone is near my house. Had backing of next door neighbor as proof. Retired couple next door.

If it's during the DAY, no don't call animal control.
Barking all night, go over to neighbor.
Either way, suggest a muzzle or something.
Nothing. N O T H I N G, though has helped us with our neighbors except THEM MOVING AWAY.

Right now, for a couple years, we've been 'good'. But about a week ago one yappy little fellow has been active.

I love dogs, too. They are GREAT. But they do need to be taught to not bark, and not bite. (Got bit by a pitbull next door two years ago - OUCH)

It's amazing how many people don't hear their dog barking, though the neighbors can't get any sleep.

I call the police, though in fr's case, since the neighbor's aren't home, that's not much help.

Depending on the municipality, most Animal Control types don't respond a night unless it's some kind of emergency like a wounded animal. With the economy at present, I wouldn't be surprised to see even less nighttime response.

For the time being, close the window.

A good pair of earplugs. That was what the former neighbors offered us a solution to goodnight sleeps from another neighbor who liked to gun his monster truck at 5 A.M. daily!
