for my 2.4MHz MBP Big Grin Actually, how long do you think before I need to upgrade to a newer Mac? I just use mine for email, internet surfing, iTunes, word processing, and simple photo editing.

I am in a similar boat except I'm at 2ghz vs your 2.4ghz. I'm going to wait until we are in the mid 3ghz range before upgrading as everything seems to work fine now.

At this point in time, my MBP is still faster than our basic Verizon DSL Big Grin

Streaming video always seems to "break" the older models.
My 2003 iBook started hitting that wall around 2007.
The G4 'books hit it in the last year or so.
So I'd say it depends largely on your graphics chip, but you ought to be able to keep up for a good 4 years (?)

It's most likely going to be the next video format. Whatever that is...

It's current formats like H.264 and whatever YouTube switched to over the last several months. I don't know if that's H.264 or not. It brings anything slower than Intel Macs to their knees.

when i was in college in around 04, the tech guy there said you will begin to want a new computer every 3 yrs.
having been used to appliances like fridge and stove, even cars going much longer it sounded crazy.
but now four sounds about right.

I'm sorry? You said what, again?

I have a G4 1 GHz PowerBook and it's never had a problem streaming any online video. Its Internet connection is wireless with Cox Communication's highest speed to the PB's Airport. My download speed at the moment, which seems slower than usual, is 14.37Mb/s.

I just don't get the question. Am I missing something about the question?

My facetious question came about due to the latest MacBook from Apple. My S/O has the same model of powerbook as yours. It does have problem viewing YouTube video.

Hmm! That's strange to me about your S/O's PB??? As I said, I've never had a problem, even with watching HD movies. I did max out the memory when I got it.
