Any experience with Geeks refurb drives? - M A V I C - 10-21-2009

I need to pickup a 400GB to add to a RAID. I know I can go with a bigger drive but would rather save a few bucks. ZZF had a 400GB drive for $40, but it's gone. That's about what I'm looking to spend.

I've found new pulls on ebay for $47 shipped. Geeks.com has some refurbed drives for $37, but I have to create an account to see how much shipping is.

you don't have a geeks account already? great place for cheap crap. Shipping costs are what you'd expect. If you find something NOT MARKED as a special (good luck with that) you can apply a never-ending 10% discount code.

those drives are manufacturer refurbs - decent product (unless you have an unreasonable fear of refurb drives)

I've purchased refurb drives and have never had a problem. ymmv

I guess I do have an account. I've shopped there before but don't think I've ever bought anything from them. I've always found a better deal elsewhere. $9 for shipping = meh.

You don't have to create an account to see the shipping at Geeks. Just add the item to your cart and it gives you a compute shipping option then.

When I added that drive to my cart and put in my zip code in GA the shipping was $9. Shipping to CA, 90210 was $7. So that gives you rough idea.

Thanks. I saw the Continue Shopping option and when I saw the Computer Shipping option with the back arrows, I thought it was the same thing. (speed reading FTL)

Thanks. I found a new seagate drive on ebay that's $45 shipped. I'll probably go for that. Gonna wait on tonight's seagate sale though.
