Best price on a decent 30" monitor? - john dough - 10-21-2009

I am looking at the 30" Dell 3007WFP-HC (my wife uses that model) and the lowest I can get it is $1152 shipped. I have seen the offerings from HP and Samsung and to me, they just don't look as sharp. Are there any others that you would recommend around that price? I cannot justify spending ~$1700 on the 30" Apple monitor. Although the 30" Apple IS very nice - if it were the same price as the said Dell, I would not be posting this question. Also, the Dell carries 2 more years warranty and the VERY handy card reader, which I use on a 24" Dell currently.

Any way to get that price down with any coupons? I may just wait until the refurbs get stocked again as I am ok with a refurbished monitor.

WOW. I would pay $700 in a heartbeat for one of those.

How 'bout considering a 27" model? Here's one for $1699 and it includes a pretty decent computer for free (and has an SD card slot to boot!):
http://www.apple.com/imac/ 27-inch models also support input from external DisplayPort sources (adapters sold separately).
I was on that deal as well (hence, the monitor for my wife). I should have bought 2 at that price! :banghead:

Yeah, for some reason, it doesn't seem that Apple is advertising this new capability that much (or at all!). As long as your secondary computer has a mini-DisplayPort, you can connect it to the 27" iMac's mini-DisplayPort and use it just as a monitor.

The only caveat (albeit small) is that apparently there are no cables of this sort just yet, so it may take suppliers a little while to get some in from manufacturers.

Buying a brand new iMac to use as an external monitor is just WRONG.

The new iMac is IPS though...
