Those thingy called PDAs? - kap - 11-02-2009 What with all the smart phones, does anyone still use a stand-alone PDA? Have those gone the way of the dinosaurs? A friend gave me a Palm Visor (not sure of the exact model). It is in great condition. Not quite sure what to do with it since I already own a Nokia cell with more bells and whistles than I know what do. EDIT: English. Re: Those thingy called PDAs? - Doc - 11-02-2009 'Best solitaire game i ever had was on my Handspring Visor. Re: Those thingy called PDAs? - AlphaDog - 11-03-2009 I was wishing for a plain vanilla PDA last summer when I wanted to take contact information with me on a trip. I rarely use a cell phone, so the one I have (now five years old) does nothing but make phone calls. Can you imagine? I did have a couple of old Palms and a Treo around here, but I couldn't get any of them to work. I sure wasn't about to buy one. Re: Those thingy called PDAs? - mlfrank - 11-03-2009 For clarity & sharpness, the Handspring line were ahead of the Palms. Sony entered with their backlit screens and for me they took the lead. Then the Palm TX became my favorite, using it for reading, alarms, music, conversion, dictionary, etc. Someone else liked it as well and "borrowed" it. Now am using the Treo 680 which does the above and is a phone as well. Have been chuckling over folks talking about the Kindle, and others similar. For the $$$ cost of those, I can get a whole lot of e-books and mp3s for my $75 Treo. Kap - did you get the base for connecting it to your computer? Have found the Missing Sync program works for my setup since the beginning of OSX. Re: Those thingy called PDAs? - kap - 11-03-2009 mlfrank, Yes, it comes with a clear base but no manual. I can still download it from the net, right? Re: Those thingy called PDAs? - testcase - 11-03-2009 God do I miss the ease of use of the Palm OS. The iPhone provides good phone service and amazing "Gee Whiz" toys but, its' basic Contacts, Calendar, Notes & seach functions are like moving backwards in time at least 10 years for me. I sorely miss Graphitti and being able to use a stylus. These are all technologies that Apple invented but sadly have abandoned. It seems style matters more than function at Apple today. I still use my Palm Tungsten T3 (the best PDA ever made in my opinion) & Sony Clie PDAs (mainly for games). My finger just doesn't do well with my iPhone ![]() Re: Those thingy called PDAs? - kap - 11-03-2009 Months ago we gave away our Sony Clies. Surprised that there are folks who still wanted the old technology. Heck, I still have my first ever pager! Re: Those thingy called PDAs? - GeneL - 11-03-2009 I still have my Sony CliƩ plus a bunch of accessories, i.e. leather case, keyboard, cradle and wireless card. It had stopped working and I was pretty confident that all it needed was a new battery. I did a google search back when and found both batteries and instructions, but I didn't feel that I could do the job myself and the cost of having it done was, I felt, prohibitive, Is there any interest in this PDA and is it worth doing something about the battery? It is the Sony nx73 and I always felt that it was a really beautiful piece of technology. http://www.amazon.com/Sony-PEG-NX73V-Clie-Handheld/dp/B00009TT2W Wow! $649 on Amazon. http://www.mobiletechreview.com/feature/sony_NX73V.htm Re: Those thingy called PDAs? - decay - 11-03-2009 i tried a Handspring for a while, but found i didn't use it much. an iPhone or iPod touch rules over them, for what i do now. they're quaint if you still use OS 9 and a typewriter. |
