How much do you pay for insurance per month? - AAA - 11-09-2009 Just did my benefits selection at work. Curious if anyone wanted to share their costs. Either anonymously in form of poll, or openly in the thread. Not making any judgment/political statement in this opening post at all. And the timing of my particular employer's benefits is purely coincidental with that of our elected representative republic officials' actions. Now, my figures include the following, but if you do not have each option, its not that big of deal. Just curious what everyone pays. Yes, most are aware that the unknown/hidden side is what the employer pays. My particular employer gives us each year a total breakdown of our full compensation, including their insurance contribution and such. So, mine include: -medical insurance |
-dental -vision -voluntary supplemental life -voluntary supplemental accidental death and dismemberment -a few smaller things too. Re: How much do you pay for insurance per month? - cbelt3 - 11-09-2009 $508 family health insurance. Plan is a 70% plan. Copays are: Doctor- $25. Specialist- $35. Generic drugs - $20 for 90 day. 70% of non generic. Urgent care - $35. ER is $75 Deductible is $1500 per person, $3000 family. Max out of pocket is $7,500 per person, $15,000 family Max lifetime benefit is $2M (I wonder how they track that. Just for this provider, or totally for this employer ?) We pay for the insurance out of our year-end bonus. Which sucks. Yay, you got $6K ! :fawkdance: boo, it's all gone. :villagers: Re: How much do you pay for insurance per month? - AAA - 11-09-2009 and if you leave before the year is out???? Re: How much do you pay for insurance per month? - davester - 11-09-2009 Well mine's the highest because I'm self-employed so my premiums represent the true, unsubsidized, no group buy costs. Employer-subsidized insurance is a heavy burden on the economy IMHO. Since small biz/individuals often can't get group rates they are burdened heavily compared to large corporations. The insurance companies simply charge the little guys (small biz, individuals and the unemployed) much more than the big guys, a practice that is backwards and should be completely illegal IMHO. Re: How much do you pay for insurance per month? - cbelt3 - 11-09-2009 If I leave before the year is out I can look into COBRA. But I expect it costs more. Did COBRA back in the 90's when I was laid off, and blew through our family savings pretty quickly that way and had to drop it. But we made dang sure everyone had a physical and appropriate tests before it. But we were all healthier. Without insurance these days ? We'd be in BAD shape. Re: How much do you pay for insurance per month? - JoeH - 11-09-2009 COBRA is available here as well, just hope I do not have to ever go that route. 105% of the group rate would chew through my savings in months, let alone have enough to pay for it for a full year. Re: How much do you pay for insurance per month? - kanesa - 11-09-2009 There should be a poll about how much your employer pays for monthly premiums. That will show the true cost of health insurance. I am lucky to pay very little but the state is paying $574/month for single plan and $1410/month for a family plan. This is also for HMO service in my covered area. If I left the area, I could get ER service but would have to return to WI for regular medical care. Asking people what they pay for insurance isn't an accurate reflection of the true cost. Find out what your employer pays and tack on your part. THEN you'll have an apples-to-apples comparison. Re: How much do you pay for insurance per month? - JoeH - 11-10-2009 Since I know the percentage I pay, I can easily figure the total paid by me and my employer. Currently for family coverage it is $1,246.60 a month. |
