I'd avoid WD Elements external hard drives... - hal - 11-18-2009
Dealmac has shown some really nice prices on these things and incorrently says that they are 7200rpm drives. They're the 'green' drives that for some reason people consider 7200 rpm drives even though they never attain 7200rpm.
anyhoo, at $99 for 1.5 TB, it was hard to resist. I wanted the drive for an internal. Took the thing apart and found THE CHEAPEST components ever. The USB board is the size of a large postage stamp. No power button. I doubt these thing would work for a year...
I LOVE the case design - only three screws in the whole thing.

Yeah, the reviews on Amazon are pretty bad, IIRC.

The WD EADS model is a favorite for DVRs - e.g., upgrading your Tivo HD.
Is that what they're using internally?
