Does Your Dog Sing? - guitarist - 11-18-2009 If so, to what song? Or what kind of music? Or do they only respond to sirens, and/or other dogs howling? We have a 10-year-old Miniature Australian Shepherd. He's plenty noisy, and enthusiastic. But not musical. I've always envied people who have dogs who sing when they hear certain kinds of music. Not to mention those rare dogs who play the piano AND sing. But our dog doesn't even howl for sirens, or bark along with music, or anything. Until, LAST WEEK, he suddenly found his music! And spontaneously began howling and barking. My wife and I were shocked! We'd never seen Charlie do this before! It was great fun. To test and see if it was an isolated incident, yesterday I played a series of songs, and waited to see if the phenomenon would be repeatable. Bingo! He did it again! When it got to his song, he began barking! Apparently inspired by some mysterious elements in this one song. The song itself is not important, though it is amusing in its own right. It's Mariah Carrey's "Touch My Body". Played at respectable volume on a good stereo. If you're familiar with the song, and have played it loud enough to notice its rhythm layers, melodic flourishes, and repetitive percussive groove, you can imagine why a dog might respond to it. Something on the high end, I think, it's a dance number with a throbbing beat and lots of shimmering bright sounds. Who knew he would be a closet Mariah Carrey fan? I guess that explains all those mysterious credit card purchases. I don't remember signing up for all those fan clubs and buying the CD sets. (just kidding, its actually the only song we have by her, though I'd consider getting more) If you have a dog who doesn't bark or sing, don't give up hope! He or she just hasn't heard their song yet, their own special music! Does your dog sing? If so, what artist, song, or genre of music does your dog respond to? Re: Does Your Dog Sing? - yeoman - 11-19-2009 Theme from a summer place - Percy Faith. Sister's poodle would clear throat, croak a few times then let rip with gentle sustained note, repeatable onlywhen this one track was played. Re: Does Your Dog Sing? - kap - 11-19-2009 I guess we should not have given up on our dogs (a senior and a youngster) so soon. So far we have only gotten from them the "Yeah, right." ![]() Re: Does Your Dog Sing? - Article Accelerator - 11-19-2009 Mine does but he insists on using that damn autotune. Re: Does Your Dog Sing? - wurm - 11-19-2009 Ours croons and vocalizes, but nothing in tune. She's much more vocal than our previous dog. Must be the hound in her. It ain't pretty. Re: Does Your Dog Sing? - $tevie - 11-19-2009 Article Accelerator wrote: LOL Re: Does Your Dog Sing? - Will Collier - 11-19-2009 My dog doesn't sing, but she does watch cartoons. Proving her good taste, her favorite is Looney Tunes. |
