Now how much do I charge for this PowerPoint Presentation? 500+ Slides... - spacescape - 04-06-2006

Ok, I now have the details on the job I need to quote.

There are over 500 slides broke up into three separate PowerPoint presentations. They will provide a master format and all the type. I'm just trying to figure out how quickly I can turn this around working in the evenings and on the weekends seeing it is a "FREELANCE JOB".

I'm need to tell them my "hourly rate" and about "how many slides I can get done in a hour" or a "per slide cost"... I also need to budget time for researching...

500+ slides? Geese, is this a headache? I figure that if the format is there and if they have everything already typed, how hard could this be... Should I charge $3.00 per slide and assume that I can get 20 slides done an hour. Should I just tell them $40 per hour and I estimate it will take 25 hours. Really, what do I charge... Really, I'm thinking that I could bang this out in a couple of nights if they have everything ready for me when I pick it up. However, I know it's going to be a small headache so I want to be well compensated for the job. Also, they are going to mark it up seeing they are an agency.

Any further advice?

Thanks!
Bill

How many you finish per hour depends on what they expect to do with them. Is this strictly a copy & paste job only or will you have "design" slides as well? As in, do they already have the 3 or 4 templates slides you need laid out already or do you have to design that. If not, it may be best to quote them the time for laying out the templates, then estimate how much the cutting and pasting will take from there. Or they may be sadists with bad taste and want each slide to be completely different.

I'm sorry I just read it again and realized it is pretty much a cut and paste job.

Yes, it is.

That seems extremely low for a per slide rate. And I seriously doubt you will get 20 done per hour simply because of the typesetting involved and you know they're going to want "War & Peace" on each slide. I would say about 15 slides per hour. Those are 33.33 hours, not including revisions/feedback/email & phone time.

How many hours a night are you really going to work on this and by when do they need it done? With a regular job, the most you could probably work without going insane is 3 - 4 hours a night. That should take you about a 1.5 weeks, not including their feedback and revisions.

I'm thinking is a $1000 - $1200 job. Maybe I'm wrong about this? Again, I hope this helps.

Thanks... I believe they have a format and want everything to be TIGHT... But really, if you think it's only about 15 slides that would be about $3.00 per slide to get my normal $40 per hour... I could do $2.50 per slide...

Really, I could "USE" the cash... But, I'm wondering if I should back out now and give them a number of a company that does it full time.

I do have a FULL TIME job and don't really know if I should take on something this big.

Talk to the people that do it full time. Get yourself a commission. Then put the two together.

Ask for some sample slides and text so you can give them a better estimate.
Then you can make an accurate assesment of the situation.

What Big Daddy Cool said...but on another note - what unfortunate soul has to sit through 500 slides of PowerPoint? I think at that point, someone should be writing a book.

Yes, 500 slides. However, it's more like three presentations and each presentation are about 250 slides. Really, it's more of a "TRAINING" presentation and no one needs to sit though 750 slides.

Sounds like about 10 spare time nights to me, too.

Wow, 750 slides.
My 3 day seminars are about 200 - 300 tops (I miss a few during naps) Smile

I "Think" I quoted the job high enough to make it enjoyable... Even if it's not that fun... This job "WOULD" pay off 1/2 of my credit card balance...
