It's been over 24 hours. Where are the Bootcamp reviews?! - rz - 04-06-2006 Ok, you MacIntel owning members, it's been over 24 hours since Bootcamp was released. Where are the reviews? Speed tests? And even more importantly, I want comparisons against this "Parallels" product. I have to buy an intel iMac for my PC-using mother in law in the next week or so, and I'm going to tell her to bring her XP discs with her (hopefully she has XP on a separate disc and not as just a "backup disc" that so many PC manufacturers bundle these days). I just want to know the pros/cons of either solution. Re: It's been over 24 hours. Where are the Bootcamp reviews?! - Silencio - 04-06-2006 You can't legally install an OEM copy of WinXP on your Mac, anyway. You are supposed to pony up for the $300ish full retail install of XP Pro (or the slightly cheaper XP Home). That's quite a significant stumbling block against the whole "Want to run our software on your Mac? Then boot into Windows" mindset. Re: It's been over 24 hours. Where are the Bootcamp reviews?! - spearmint - 04-06-2006 Windows XP home $89.99 http://www.surpluscomputers.com/store/main.aspx?p=CATEGORYBody&c=SOCO Re: It's been over 24 hours. Where are the Bootcamp reviews?! - OWC Jamie - 04-06-2006 One can't legally drive drunk, either. Re: It's been over 24 hours. Where are the Bootcamp reviews?! - Silencio - 04-07-2006 $89.99, OEM version, see above. Still technically illegal, which isn't going to stop the average home user. Corporate and enterprise people can't do this, lest they bring down the wrath of the Software Police. Re: It's been over 24 hours. Where are the Bootcamp reviews?! - incognegro - 04-07-2006 http://store.purplus.net/miwixphoedfu.html "Ships With NON Microsoft® Internal Hardware Component Included" thus satisfying the OEM requirement, making it legal. |
