And I still wonder why they haven't explored (or publicized) the fact that the driver couldn't shut the engine down.

I realize that when something unexpected like a "runaway engine" happens, in many cases there's little time to think and then react. However, in the case of the police officer who's accident killed everyone aboard yet a passenger in the car had time to call 911 you'd think someone would have thought to. . . turn the key off.

Stops the engine in my car - everytime.

Might be, our '10 Prius is. The shifter is a self-centering joystick.

The is no key. It's a smartkey you keep on your person. There's a button to start but no stop button.

IIRC, pushing the button while in any position other than "Park" does nothing.
