AppleTV question - parental restrictions - macphanatic - 11-29-2009

I ordered an AppleTV on BF. One question that I can't find an answer to is how to enforce parental restrictions on non-purchased media. I've ripped a bunch of movies (ranging from G to R rated) and imported them into iTunes. How do I set the ATV up so that a password is required for the R rated material?

You can use iSubtitle to set the content rating on your own video media. Then you just enable parental controls in Apple TV and iTunes and you're set:

Some additional utilities that allow you to set the ratings:

Thanks. Looks like one of the free ones should do the trick. Did you find them via google? If so, what search did you use? I'm guessing something including "meta data" which was the one term I didn't think of using.

Your question was an interesting challenge so I decided to 'go hunting.' I tried all kinds of search terms including "metadata" but there was no single magic combination. Thirty minutes or so of searching finally started to uncover the mystery.

I myself have needed something that would allow setting of video kind (TV, movie, etc.) and other metadata and it looks like those utilities will be useful for that too.
