Apple's price for that machine is $2550 - this vendor raised the base price $44 from that. Not a deal.

Best price I've seen on this machine is $2200 at MacConnection:

EDIT: The MC price does not include the anti-glare option.

The MacMall quote of $2480 includes upgrades to the stock machine of a 7200RPM Hard Drive (stock 5400RPM) and the Matte Screen (stock glossy) that costs $194 extra.

So it's still a non-deal,,,
but the average going rate (?). Dang.

Id rather pay the $2200 and live with a glossy screen.

You might call Macconnection, maybe they can BTO it with the matte screen ($50) and still get you the rebate...

And nix the 7200RPM HD in favor of cash savings? I've been Googling the "real world" speed difference between 5400 and 7200RPM. The general concensus is that in a laptop a 7200RPM drive might not be that great of an idea because of heat, noise, and battery life when weighing the uptick in speed.

I can do without the 7200RPM drive and put that saved money in a future purchase of RAM to max it out.

I really can't nix the matte option ($50) though. I enjoy working and surfing in bright sunlit rooms at home. I might have to give them a call then... finding a deal on non-stock config (matte screen) MacBook Pros is a bit harder.

3d, I work and surf in bright, sunlit rooms at home and my glossy screen does not come into play. Outside yes, it is harder. I usually will sit facing the sun for that or else under an umbrella. FWIW.

I'd also check MacConnection, maybe also LA CoCo. I've had very good experiences in dealing with both in the past.

I probably have the worst computer desk set-up possible at home when it comes to sunlight and glare. My back is to the window. LOL Why is it set up like that? Well,, I'm facing the TV. I like peaking over the screen to see the Giants score. Which is such a rarity nowadays I don't want to miss it!

Dangit!!

Considered going through with a MacConnetion.com order online. $2350 ($150 MIR) and I just got slapped with $200 in tax (NY) at checkout. Arghh!! I forgot that was coming. So now it looks like I gotta lay out $2550 total at checkout with a measly $150 mail in rebate.

*grumbles*
This is gonna have to wait 'til i get home tonight after a few Rum&Cokes Sad

Sorry - did not realize you and MC were both located in NY.

I missed the bit about the 7200 drive in your original post. Note that the HD is user-swappable in the latest MBP design - you could pick up a 7200 and put it in yourself (and be left with a spare 5200 drive to boot) for not more than it would cost to get it from Apple.
