Infamous Error Code 0x8002006E - Any Workarounds? - IronMac - 12-01-2009
Hi all, been getting this error more and more frequently when trying to burn DVDs (no idea if it occurs with CDs). Did a lot of Googling and it seems to be very prevalent but cannot seem to find any sort of definitive answer. I'm just hoping that I missed it somehow. Have tried restarting the Finder, restarting the machine and am using two different brands of DVDs.
Running early 2008 2.5 MBP with OS X 10.5.8.

Have you tried burning with a different app? What are you using now? Apple's built-in burn feature?

Yep, using OS X's Burn feature. I've read of people having the same problem with Toast and that the solution there was to trash preferences, all preference (plist?) files associated with Toast, etc. I don't know if that solution is the end-all be-all solution though.
Seems that this problem has been around since 10.4 but others says since 10.5 or 10.6. Apple definitely knows about it because they are also replacing Superdrives if the problem crops up.
I'm going to have to use my wife's Vista laptop at this rate. :censor:

Most any time I get an error while burning disks, it turns out to be the media.
Even when it makes no sense, and I'm certain my media is good.
When I switch to a better brand of media, the problem goes away.

Apple uses crap optical drives in their laptops.
Had to have the SuperDrive replaced in my Macbook Pro (CoreDuo), and it was lightly used over its life. There's really no excuse for that.

I'm using Verbatim which is only one rung below Taiyo stuff. I've been switching between this and a no-name brand and sometimes the no-name will not work and I then switch to Verbatim. But a Verbatim one has just gone tits-up so now I am thinking it is not because of the media.

I just called AppleCare and they had me do a reset of the SMC. Fingers crossed!!!

The optical drive in my old iMac G5 got to where it wouldn't read any burned disks -- would only read ones made in pressing plants. I'm betting this has more to do with the drive than any software glitch.

Ok, two no-name DVDs are now coasters (one may have already been bad so that does not count) and two Verbatims worked fine.
