Just sold my 10 Gig iPod - microchip13 - 04-07-2006

3rd Generation, BIN on eBay for $145.

With the remote, an iSkin, 3 trendy geek covers, the cable and power thingy, and an iTrip.

It fared me well.

Not too bad. If the person was a Mac head, remember the Firewire ONLY ones (1 to 4 gen) have more value because they are BOOTABLE Hard Drives also.

They hold value pretty well for what they are worth...

Sold my wife's 10GB iPod about 3 weeks ago also and fetched similar - $149 via Buy It Now with all the original accessories plus a case and PCI FIreWire card that I didn't need anymore. Surprisingly, the battery still played for over 9 hours per charge.

She now is the proud owner of a 60GB video iPod. Can't get over how thin they are compared to my 60GB iPod Photo.

Re: Just sold my 10 Gig iPod - Racer X - 04-07-2006

what should I do? I am soon to get my wife's 10 gig 3rd gen replaced under warranty.

Demand a FW version, or one of the new, larger capacity USB ones?

Who is the warranty through? if Apple, you probably don't have a choice. You get what they give you.

The features of the new Video iPod FAR outweigh the "Bootable" perk unless you are a true Mac geek.

I bought a 4G iPod photo with a cracked screen to use with my iPod ready Alpine car stereo AND to act as an emergency Bootable drive IF I needed it. I also have a 30 gig Video iPod for use as a regular iPod.

I haven't used the 4G cracked iPod once as a bootable drive in the past year (I guess I should upgrade the OS for booting to 10.4.x).

Bootable ipods are nice to have, but not necessary.

Go for the Video iPod (although USB is a little flakey on the Mac).....

What Mac are you using?

WinXP at the wife's work on USB 2 (or Win2K and USB on a POS PC at home), and a MDD Duallie dual boot at home with USB 1 and FW 400.

I have a 13 month old 40 Gig iPod Photo. My friend is looking for a 30 gig iPod and asked me to keep an eye out for him. I thought about offering him mine for $200.00 seeing I believe I paid $299 from buy.com when they where clearing them out. I would replace it w/ a 30 gig iPod video. Just don't really know if I need an iPod video but it's form factor is very very nice.
