Are the Tiger install DVDs for CoreDuo machines binary? - Jimmypoo - 04-07-2006

Just wondering if those are self-determining DVDs for install, or are the Intel Tiger DVDs
specific issue DVDs.

Anyone know for CERTAIN?

Are they binary?

No, they're ASCII.

If Apple had spent the extra effort to make them binary, they'd have fit onto CDs instead of requiring DVDs.

Can you at least TRY to be a bit more helpful?

What answer would you have given on the radio?

I think JP is asking whether they are Universal binary http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_binary, as in both PPC and x86 compiled apps. Which I don't know.

And binary here refers to the pre-compiled app as opposed to source code. And those DVDs are definitely not filled with source code. Can you imagine how long an install would take if everything had to be compiled real time?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binary_file
"Compiled computer programs are typical examples; indeed, compiled applications (object files) are sometimes referred to, particularly by programmers, as binaries."
